Ah, sunscreen – the unsung hero of summertime. We all know we need to protect our skin from harmful UV rays, but who wants to slather on a goopy, greasy mess? Luckily, Bask Sunscreen claims to be the answer to all our sunscreen woes. 

But does it live up to the hype?

Let's start with the packaging. The cheery butter-yellow design looks like it belongs on the Instagram grid, not next to the BBQ sauce at the grocery store. Just looking at it will make you feel like you’re living your best summertime life. 

Now, onto the actual product. Bask Sunscreen boasts a formula that's free of the nasty chemicals oxybenzone & octinoxate. Meaning that it meets the requirements to be Hawaii reef-safe, so you can feel good about slathering it on before your next snorkeling adventure. It has also been screened for benzene contamination, which means that it’s a safer pick than many other sunscreens on the market. 

The texture is lightweight, almost like a serum, and doesn't leave a white cast on your skin, unlike some other sunscreens. It also absorbs quickly, so you can apply and go without feeling like you're covered in slime. Unlike a lot of other sunscreens, it’s water based, not oil based. And yet it still manages to be water and sweat resistant. What alchemy are the Bask people employing here?

Of course, no sunscreen can check every box. Bask Sunscreen is specifically formulated for use on the body, so you'll still need to find a good facial sunscreen to make sure you're fully protected. (We actually have some recommendations, ahem..) Which is not to say that you can’t use it on your face – we won’t tell if you do!

Overall, I'd say Bask Sunscreen is a winner. It's effective, smells heavenly, and looks damn cute sitting on your bathroom counter. Plus, it's made by a small business, so you can feel good about supporting the little guy. Just be sure to grab a tube (or bottle) before you hit the beach – your skin will thank you.
