How I Got My Pup To Stop BEGGING At The Table

At Primary Goods, we have an independent selection process & only review what we fully endorse. If you buy a product via our links, we may earn a commission.

Editor’s note: Our team (and their dogs!) love Ollie. If you’re looking to make the switch to fresh food for your dog, you can get 50% off your first box.

My dog Rita is a total ham. It used to be that if you even looked at the refrigerator in her presence, she’d put on an Oscar-worthy performance, begging for food as if she’d never eaten anything in her entire life.

This little con artist had everyone fooled. Friends, family, and my partner and I had all fallen victim to Rita’s puppy-dog eyes and plaintive whines… to the point that she was starting to gain weight from all the table scraps!

It turns out that it wasn’t the quantity of food she was getting, but rather the quality. She was bored with regular kibble, and honestly, I can’t blame her. The solution I found was fresh, human-grade food from Ollie. Their meals paired the variety she craved with the nutrition she needed, and finally got her to stop begging for scraps and get back to begging for belly rubs.

Variety is the Spice of Life (aka Kibble’s Boring)

We all want the best for our dogs, and we choose their food with the assumption that we’re giving it to them. Kibble brands are loaded with buzzwords like “Premium” and ‘High-Quality.” But the reality is that many kibbles out there use low-quality meats and animal byproducts, the kind of stuff that would usually wind up in the trash. And most kibble is highly processed, essentially the dog equivalent of fast food.

Imagine digging into the same fast food meal twice a day, forever. I probably wouldn’t make it a week before I started begging for a carrot. And that was the crux of Rita’s problem: she was bored of eating the same thing every day.

When we switched to Ollie, she suddenly had options. Beef for breakfast, lamb for dinner; she was living like a tiny foodie queen. And with chicken, turkey, and pork options available, we could mix things up any time she started to get tired of the routine.

Combine the variety with the fact that all of Ollie’s food is made with 100% human-grade ingredients, and my special gal was getting all the quality she needed. Before I knew it, the tableside begging had stopped and she was back to harassing me for her food, not mine.

More Wholesome Ingredients = More Satisfied Pup

Another thing I appreciate about Ollie is the amount of care and consideration that goes into each bowl of their food. You won’t find added hormones, animal byproducts or fillers, and none of their recipes contain ingredients that tend to disagree with dogs, like corn, wheat, or soy.

With all recipes, meat is the first ingredient – backed up by plenty of fruit, veggies, and grains (with the exception of their Fresh Beef recipe, which is grain-free). These meals are packed with all the nutrients your dog needs to live their happiest, healthiest life.

After starting on this new diet, Rita started feeling and looking better. Her coat took on a luscious, healthy sheen. Her poops… I’m going to skip the play-by-play and just say that her poops improved significantly. And because Ollie customized her meal plan based on her breed, age, and weight goals, she was able to shed those table scrap pounds and get back to being her usual, energetic self.

Empty Ollie bowl = a satisfied pup-stomer!

If your dog is incessantly begging for scraps, it’s worth looking into the root of the problem. For us, switching to Ollie helped Rita get the variety she was craving with the nutrition she needed. And if you’re looking to make the same change for your dog, you can get your first box of Ollie for 50% off.
